I have one side of the trunk next to the key lock that can be pushed in, not real easy but with my hand and it will stay until I reach behind it and push it back out. I need to fill it in with some filler and my question is can I fix this “oil can” movement and if I do not will it cause the filler and paint to fail later on?

Before I go any further on the trunk I wanted to know.
The trunk gutter's inner lip which is part of the trunk lid hinge plate has some rusted dips (no holes) along the top. I thought I would weld a 1/2" by 1" steel angle to the top of the existing lip and trunk hinge plate (see photo). Question: do you have a better suggestion and would it be better to first install the filler panel and then add the angle on top?
Mostly everything is off of the fire wall and I've also had some holes repaired where the previous owner tried to add A/C. I'm going to do it on my own and I don't have much knowledge with it. I'm wondering how to prep it? Some guys have told me just to "knock it down" with steel wool while other have said to use a brillo pad then clean the firewall with paint prep cleaner..? I didn't finish that conversation and don't really know if he was right. Here are some pics before and after the repair of the holes.
Your knowledge is appreciated.

clear coat

can fading clearcoat be saved?

sheet metal

Who offers the best fitting sheet metal?

painting topper

I got a blue fibergass topper for my black short bed, I would like to keep the thing on the truck, other than the top it it mostly glass.
