The window channel and felt kit I bought not even close. Vendor tells me I have a 63 window in 64? The side windows have a black metal frame that the glass is set in. Does anyone know where I can get this metal frame or a complete window with the frame attached? I have searched all over the internet and can not find anything on this metal frame around the dang windows. Im sure my truck is a 64 because it was bought new by my Grandfather. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK - I rebuilt my heater, but I still get some heated air through the heater, even though the flap on my 65's deLuxe heater shuts quite well.

I am wondering -

Can I install a diverter valve that will re-route the water back to the engine when I don't need it (no AC yet - so summer's gonna be pretty hot in there. No need to make it worse.)? Is there a balance of some kind that running the heated coolant through the heater core provides?

Now - if it's "OK" to do it, where do I get such a critter? I'd prefer not to have to run vacuum lines or cables to operate it - something simple.
I've spent a lot of time fixing what the previous owners had changed/butchered. While under the hood last night I noticed that the "first and reverse control rod" where it connects to the "tube lever" out of the steering column was very sloppy. Looking at my '63 Chevy Truck Shop Manual, it appears like there is a bushing or something that connects the rod to the lever. Is that correct? Going on the assumption that there is, I looked at every catalog I had to find it. I found a "1947-66 Shift Rod Grommet, item CX1122" in the Classic Industries catalog. Is this what I need to take up the slack in my rod to lever connection? I've always had sloppy movement in the shift lever and replaced the shift collar on the column, which made a huge difference. Would the lack of this grommet cause my shifter to drop out of reverse? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have been in Afghanistan for the past 8 months and the truck has been at a local racing garage who completed the paint and body for me. I picked the truck up upon returning and drove it approximately 100 miles before it suddenly back fired very loudly and after coasting to a stop refused to start, I thought it was a timing issue so I replaced the timing chain and gears. The truck fired up fine after reassembly but now there is a terrible grinding noise under the truck, when you first turn the truck on its an oscillating metal grind but not really loud, within 10 seconds it suddenly becomes terrible sounding and very very loud. While installing the gears I used vice grips on the flexplate or flywheel ( I have an automatic 2 speed powerglide) I was thinking that I might have damaged the flexplate but there doesnt seem to be any cracks nor does it seem to be bent. The started was never removed. Any ideas? Replacing the flexplate is both expensive and time consuming so if someone can think of something else I would greatly appreciate it.

Engine won't keep running/or run good??

I rebuilt the Rochester 1 bl carburetor on my 235 motor and put it on and it would not start/run very good. I have been working on it the last few days and need some advice! I tried a different carburetor tonight and the same thing. It would sporadically fire for a few seconds/run at 1/2 speed/ flood the carb, etc. It did run (both carb) for 10 seconds here and there but at 1/2 the normal rpm speed then if I barely touched the gas pedal it would stall. I tried putting most of the old parts back in the carb and it does the same thing basically. Now I am wondering if it is a spark problem or a fuel pump problem? or?? I am out of ideas at this point what to check/try next and i want to start cruising in my truck as soon as possible.

700r4 trans question

Will a trans from a 92 gmc work on my 80 model 350 engine. First time its been out on the open road for about 5 years. Time flies when your having fun.

We took our GPS to confirm the speedometer is accurate, which it was to my surprise. I would have figured the huge rear tires would have thrown it off a bit. All in all a good first outing.

Gearing and tires produce 2000 RPM at 50 MPH in 4th gear. Which is pretty much what I had figured.
Mainly when I would start the truck.

Its an old truck with an Edelbrock intake and 4-bbl carb but nothing leaks and the engine is very clean. I bought the intake manifold, carb and air cleaner from JEGS but I don't believe the carb and air cleaner were an exact fit.

This winter I had time so I made it my project to make these fit together better. I pounded part of the cleaner with a ball hammer so it would fit around the choke. I noticed the center of the air cleaner still didn't fit tight to the carb so I bought relatively thick gasket material and made a 5" round gasket. A much better seal.

This week when I drove it for the first time I noticed when I accelerated I didn't get the large sucking sound I normally heard. The truck seems to run great and a little later in the day I noticed the gas smell was gone as well.

So I thought I'd pass my experience on. Never thought a little thing like that would make that much of a difference.
Well when the guy sold me the truck, he also gave me a milk crate filled with parts. He said these parts were what is was going to install but never got around to it.

Is this the right switch for this? because the holes are not lining up where it should attach down in front of the firewall, and I am guessing the the leads off of the switch going left to right are:
left-"park"
middle-"reverse"
right-"drive"?
please correct me if I'm wrong.
