Tried to restart a couple of times (was getting spark) but wouldn't. Had it towed home and checked fuse, wiring connection at gas tank, etc. Could not hear pump operate when switched on so checked fuel pressure relief and gas barely dribbled out (note, new inline filter recently installed, see my posts from a few months ago -- incidentally, the issue was a faulty # 6 ignition wire plug terminal). I then direct wired the red wire/terminal fuel pump test lead on the passenger side inner fender panel to the + terminal on the battery -- still no FP action.

So with that, I jacked the rear end up, drained around 17 gas of fuel (could not happen on a quarter tank...) and replaced the pump with a Bosch unit ( got it at no cost as it was under a life time replacement warranty from previous change). Also, please note that this is my 4th FP replacement in these type cars (1 in my 93 9C1 and my 3rd in this car) and I am getting pretty good at it -- however, at 70, and in a gravel driveway flat on your back, its not the best way to spend your Saturday.

Could I have gotten a bad replacement? The replacement pump plastic bag was open, however, the pump and other parts showed absolutely no signs of handling. Sure wish that I had bench tested it before installing, and actually thought about it, was concerned that this might damage it as it is liquid cooled.

It seems that the next step is to pull the pump and test it (if so, will running it dry for a few seconds harm it?) but I want to first make sure that I am not overlooking something really simple (have already put around ten gallons back into the tank) before I drop that tank again. Incidentally, the fuel gauge works so I feel like the rear connector is doing what it is supposed to do. However, I have wondered if perhaps the fuel pickup circuit is working but that the terminals specific to the pump motor are not making contact. This is a three wire connector with black, purple and white coming from to body side and black, light blue and white on the pickup/sending unit harness side. Since the purple and blue wires are of a lighter gauge I assume that the heavier wires include the pump and common ground. If so, which of the two remaining is the ground wire?

Also, is the red fuel pump check lead a true direct test of the FP? Is there anything that might circumvent it from giving a true indicator? When I first got it the truck would choke out from time to time when idling. We had assumed we found the problem with the brack booster. So we changed it but now you can't hit the brakes at all with the vacuum line on the brake booster. If you disconnect from booster and leave it open truck runs fine. If you plug vacuum line with your finger the truck tries to choke out when the brake is engaged.

3100 AC Issue

Hi all,
When I first got it it would just crank and no start. Changed the fpr and fired right up ran good for a few days let it set a few days and then had Same problems. Changed fpr again and fired up. Ran good for a while and had a leak in my fuel cell drained it and fixed it put the same fuel back it and went to start and it just sputtered and dies and back fires some will not stay running. Thought I may have water n gas. Treated it same problem. Checked fuel pressure and key on hits 60 but drains back. Put fuel down the intake and fires up and runs perfect. Im stumped at what it could be. Could it be the fpr for the fourth time or maybe the spider injection? Any help will be appreciated.
