First wanted to say thanks to anybody who helped me with my drum brake problem! I have a new issue that I didn't anticipate. The Sedan has different no wrap around bumpers on it, but came with new front and rear stock bumpers. Was pulling bumpers, door handles etc to start body work to get a new paint job soon and realized that the rear quarter panel holes and indent had been filled!! Looks like a simple patch from inside fenders. If I cut the access holes for the bumper brackets and keep the rest of the panel smooth...will the rear bumper still fit properly??

Rusty hood springs

I can use some advise on a cheap way to remove rust on hood springs. I'm getting close to being ready to crank up the old 235 after about 20 years of sitting in my garage since parked. Has anyone put together a pre-start checklist? I've rebuilt the carb and a buddy told me I really should run the oil pump with a drill for about 20 minutes first (i'll have to figure that out) which got me to thinking there are probably some other issues I've not thought of. Keeping my fingers crossed, Thanks.
Front mount plate or oil pan?

I'm trying to get ready to start the engine, but have a couple of oil leaks that happen when I just spin the oil pump with a drill. One is associated with the oil filter housing, so I can address that pretty easily. But the other one is probably going to be a lot of work no matter which way I have to go.

The car is a 1951, but the engine is a 1958-62 235 full pressure. I modified the front plate to accept the 1951 front engine mounts. The engine is mounted in the car, but the radiator is not yet, and the front clip is off of the car, too. So things could be worse, I guess.

Here is a picture looking up past the motor mount at the leak. The oil is clean, so it's difficult to see. It's on the driver's side of the engine and looks like it is either coming out from behind the front mounting plate, or the front corner of the oil pan, where the neoprene seal that curves under the bearing cap meets the cork gasket.

The oil comes out just at the glob of permatex showing between the bolt head and the mounting plate, and runs down from there. It runs down the back side of the mounting plate and drips down onto the cross member and onto the steering idler and third arm, then to the lower control arm.

I ran the pump for about 7 or 8 minutes yesterday, and today there was about a quarter of a cup of oil on the ground and the suspension members. I cleaned everything up and ran the pump for about a minute, then was able to find this oil track that is shown above.

When I installed the pan gaskets, I had the engine on a stand upside down, put the cork gasket in place with the tabs in the slots in the bearing caps, then put the neoprene seals on top of those and in the grooves.

The engine rebuilder mounted the front plate, so I cannot speak to whether or not they got everything in there that they should have.

I am very inexperienced with this work, so am looking for some direction as to the best way to go. Either way - pulling the oil pan or pulling the front plate - is going to be a good deal of work, so I'd rather go after the one that is most likely first. So, considering that fact that the engine is not turning over and the leak still happens at this location, can anyone suggest what is the most likely problem?

Any suggestions are welcome.
