Fairly limited knowledge here. I have a sbc engine with starter problem. The car can sometimes start once and run fine, but then when attempt to start second time starter gear gets stuck in flexplate. I crawl under and push starter gear back to place. Bought a new starter - it jammed. Tried shimming - no luck. Had original starter rebuilt since I knew it lined up perfectly and had worked many times before recent problem. Bench test is fine... but on the car same problem. Started once, then jammed. A friend suggests it is electrical but I am confused. I thought it would be a mechanical issue since it is a spring that disengages/returns the starter drive gear? I don't think flexplate is bent or damaged. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.

VSS to innovate LM2

Hey guys, you'll have to lead me through this. I know nothing of diodes etc. My background is 12 volt DC automotive stuff.
My hot rod has a GM 700R4 transmission with the GM vss running an autometer electric speedometer. The vss has 2-wires, and generates a four-pulse (4000 pulses per mile) sine-wave (A.C. current) with minimum voltage of 1.8 volts and the signal climbs proportionately with vehicle speed.
I would like to convert the AC sine wave to a DC square wave with a voltage of 0-5 volts (most senors are 0-5 volts on computer equiped cars) so I can connect my innovate LM2 to it so I can record MPH along with the AFR and RPM that the LM2 records. The LM2 has connections for analog input and output. The LM2 already does this through an OBD2 connection but this hot rod has no OBD2 connection as it has no ECM.
This is not something that will be mounted permanently in the car if that helps.

Thanks for all your help guys!

door locks

I have door lock problems on a 2000 astro cargo van they work good 1 or 2 times then will not lock or unlock the doors and get weaker after about 5 or 6 times they barely click the actuaters.I replaced the door lock relay didn't make difference somebody told me it could be the body control module what ever that is?

Harness Tape

What do you prefer adhesive or non-adhesive? and why?

Dash Indicator lights.

So usually I'm pretty good at figuring these things out but this one has me a bit stumped. I have a 77 Malibu that I put after-market gauges in and such, the problem I'm having is, when the headlights are off the dash indicator lights work perfect. When I turn on the head lights, both turn signal indicator lights turn on. They still blink, but the green lights being on constantly with the headlights is annoying.

So far I have replaced: headlight switch, turn signal switch, ignition switch, high-beam switch, re-run all the grounds.

Yet the issue still persists. Any help would be appreciated.

taillights and fuses popping

Hi everyone, I got a few light questions for you on taillights and headlights.

The rear taillights, i have a right rear brake light, and a left rear taillight. I replaced the bulbs, still no change. Car is still using the factory taillight sockets on the new wire harness. The factory blinkers work fine tho, left and right.

The headlights, I pulled the headlight switch, head lights came on. When I hit the high beam switch, sparks shot out of the after market head light switch towards the knob followed by a fee sparks under the dash with a loud pop.

Majority of the wires under the dash coming from fuse box are not used, are wound up and zip tied under dash. This on the '54 sedan that I was having starter issues with.
Thanks in advance,

Just wondering if there is a way I can use one wire on the temperature sending unit gauge instead of two? Reason why I am asking is because I have three after market gauges for the temp, voltage and oil pressure and the temp gauge only uses one wire. I want to be able to use my cluster dummy lights and my after market gauges.

To my understanding one wire is for hot and the other is for cold.
I have a 64 impala and I recently swapped out my bad 327 motor for a 350 motor and I replaced my engine harness and light harness.
Now when I put my ignition in "ON" position the starter becomes enabled. At first I thought it was my starter so I replaced it and I get the same thing.
My setup is ignition and battery wire to starter, I have one of those high output alternators that has only one terminal and no connectors and I have that hooked up to my battery and harness wire to alternator is hooked up to the alternator.

I guess I am stuck. I have been going over the wiring diagram and everything looks according.
Is there something that I am missing here?
Thanks.
