I'm looking to find out what size fuel tank I have in my 1994 Z71. Any of the RPO code listings don't seem to match.

I would jokingly tell you to run it empty then fill it up.. but the electric fuel pump really doesn't like to be starved for fuel.

Here's what I found on RPO codes for gas tanks:

NH2 FUEL TANK,113L, 30 GAL
NJ9 FUEL TANK,80 GAL, LH OR RH FILL
NK7 FUEL TANK,117L, 31 GAL
NL2 FUEL TANK,AUXILIARY
NL4 FUEL TANK,NATURAL GAS, DUAL, 3600 PSI, 30,000 GU
NL6 FUEL TANK,13 GAL, SINGLE
NL7 FUEL TANK,125L, 33 GAL
NL8 FUEL TANK,132L, 35 GAL, LH, RECT, STEEL
NL9 FUEL TANK,132L, 35 GAL, RH, RECT, STEEL
NN4 FUEL TANK,227L, 60 GAL
NQE FUEL TANK,20 GAL, SINGLE

Any of those on your RPO code sticker?

26 sounds about right. When I picked up the truck, it was on empty. I put about 23.5 gallons in. But then, the needle pegged way past the full mark.

That's why I wasn't so sure.

If I remember correctly from my manual, it says the fuel gage will read at or near empty when there is about 6 gallons left. I usually run my truck till its right on E or a little past is, but I've never put more than 22 gallons in at a time.

My 98 Burb has a 44 gal tank. When the needle touches the first red-orange mark (the one above the empty mark, the engine stops running, because its out of gas. If I let it sit for a minute I can start it up again and go just about 1 miles, before it quits again.

The last time I ran out of gas I was towing a trailer on I-40 in the middle of nowhere. It stopped, I coasted until the speed was down to about 10 mph started it up again, accelerater to about 35 and made it almost all the way to the next exit. But I was able to coast to the ramp and down it into a service station. I filled it all the way up, and it only took 39.4 gal. NO MORE would go in the filler neck. That is the most I have ever been able to get into the tank except when we changed the fuel pump about a year ago. Then I put 10 gallons in from gas cans and drove it about 25 miles and then put about 35 gal in, so I am pretty sure that it will hold 44 gal.

That means that there was about 5 or more gal in the tank that the pump couldn't suck out.

Don't trust the gage!

Your fuel gauge works?!?!?

Mine quit recently. Thankfully I already know how many miles it will go on a tank. It's just as labor-intensive to replace the sender as it is to replace the fuel pump - mine's got 85K on it so I'm not fixing it until the fuel pump dies. Well, maybe not. If the pump's still working at 95K, I guess it'll be time to fix it.

Of course it works. (Maybe its outsourced overseas or something ) Its just that it is empty when it gets to the first red-orange line above the empty mark.
