A few years ago I got word of a low mileage '63 Impala in a Barn outside of town that might be for sale cheap... So I drove out to go see it. The car was sold even before I saw it just based on price alone. $1500 for a running two door hardtop!

I get to the barn and here was this black '63 with a 327 and powerglide. Love at first sight. She had been sitting there for over 20 years, being fired up every year or so just to idle for 5 minutes. The owner explained to me that it was on its way to be crushed when he got word of it- he bought it for scrap. There it sat for 20 years.

She was rough... but complete. It ran, we fired it up through a gas can and I drove it out of the barn!

You can see in the pics how rough it was- but it ran and to me that was half the battle. The plan was to clean it up, get it safe, torch the coils and drive it! you know how that goes though

The frame where the idler bolts to was the only bad part (of the frame lol) a quick patch job and it was fixed

The hood was rotten right through on the lip, so after many hours searching I finally found a mint hood for it- and what a censored shame what ends up happening to it... you'll see

Quickie two day body job, now it was time to paint it... it was still wavy and not the greatest body job so I had to go with a flat paint or primer. I didn't plan on keeping it long so a $30 gallon of Tremclad (Canadian Rustoleum) dilluted 50% with thinner did the trick!

I was shocked how nice it came out! But would it last? I was told the car would have to be stripped to bare metal if I ever wanted a real paint job on it... the Tremclad reacts with regular automotive paint but I didnt care

Next up- airride

Jeff Norwell called me up and asked if I was interested in a set of Supremes with new tires that came with a '55 Ford he had just bought... score!

At this point, a "friend" of mine was busting my balls about the car if i would sell it. Sure! everythings for sale! He came out and looked at it, and decided he HAD to own it. I sold it for EXACTLY what I had in it, no games or BS. He didn't have the funds though. Reluctantly, I took $1000 cash from him and a payment plan... what a mistake. I got the first two payments, then the excuses started. It got to the point that I had to repo the car back from him. Therefore she got her name...

MONTEZUMAS REVENGE!

I did a bit more work on it, including the exhaust and brakes.

I couldnt have a tan interior with a flat black body and green roof, so I scored a green interior out of a '64 Parisienne for $150

I then decided it was time to part with it when I bought my '63 Riviera. The car turned out to be a great driver, but it was still way to rough for me to be truely happy with it. I sold it to a guy and saw it a month later looking like this:

My mint hood that took forever to find now had a blower scoop sticking out of it. The censored cut a hole in it. I was going to cry. The windows where tinted green and it had a massive stereo in it. Oh well he loved it. I didnt see the car for 6 months after this.

Then, out of the blue at work, a customer comes up to me and says "Hey! you dont remember me do you?" I say no, he then goes on telling me about how he was friends with the guy I sold it to, and ended up buying it from im. I say wow good for you! He says it's currently being torn apart because of some damage to the suspension... I tell him it was all redone what happened??

I had manual toggle switches on the compressors because I liked having air on demand. When I sold the car, I told the owner either re-wire them to a pressure switch or make sure you watch the gauges!! When he sold the car to this guy, I guess he wasnt adamant on this important piece of information and the guy left both compressors on while blasting the stereo going down the highway.... when he got off the ramp he hit the switch to raise the front and BAM!! 500psi went to the bags and the car bounced a foot off the ground. When it came down it fubared the tierods, centerlink etc...

Montezuma's Revenge!!

300+ pics of the car and it's 6 month restoration to the road in this album

I had a great time with this old pos... people would freak seeing me crusing 1" off the ground everywhere. The best reaction I ever got by far was at a red light, an older man crossing infront stopped and yelled

"HEY PENDECKO!!!!!"

That was one of the highlights of crusing ever for me!!

RE7's, 5 gal tank, Viair 450's, 1/2" valves, 2 switches no side to side nonsense. It was bulletproof!

Well, since you have so much of the story on the car, perhaps you should keep it this time

Those old "organ pipe" speaker grill and TV antenna are old time bits that are cool Hate to say it, but I can remember when they were cool the first time around
