How can you tell the difference between the reproduction hood hinges and the factory originals on a 1962 Chevy? I made the mistake of spraying mine with WD 40, since they were kind of stiff, and now the hood won't stay up at all. The hinges have a grey look to them, and appear to have been clear coated. They just don't look like original raw metal, and the springs are also painted black, like they might have been replaced. I don't have much history on my cars maintenance, since the owner died prior to my purchase of it. Are the 1962 hinges the same as any other year? thanks Junk..

62 hood hinges are one year only. Yours "look like originals", but I can't tell for sure. Repro hinges are junk, not to be used. Rebuilt originals or nice tight originals are the only way to go.

I suggest power washing the hinges(at the joints) at the local car wash. I put a little gease on mine and they can let the hood close when its not all the way up.

If you do wind up needing your hinges repaired, I can recommend these guys. They do excellent work.

Yep! Wilson's did a GREAT job on my hinges. I was very impressed with the result, the cost, and the leadtime.
