I'm working on restoring my 1951 Chevy Styleline Deluxe but I've been having trouble finding parts. I want to do an OEM restoration since I've always prefered to keep it original and the car has the original interior upholstery, engine, etc.. and I don't want to mess with that. The only thing I'm adding to it is seat belts. So what are some good places to order parts?

Welcome to CT, tell what parts you're looking for and you'll get ideas where to look.

Still working on it so there might be more but I know that I need glass for the window vents, new handles for the doors, floor pans, trunk lock, carpet/trunk kit, and there are a few knobs that have been chipped and/or busted. Does that help?

OK, look at chevsofthe40's,look at the filling station, look at national chevy association

www.chevsofthe40s.com
www.fillingstation.com
www.nationalchevyassoc.com

National has some used parts, as well.

A salvage yard to try in Wellington, Tx is Owens Salvage. "Bob" is the guy, good prices, good service.

Those places should get you started. All places have been used by guys on this 49 to 54 forum

Good luck.

Thanks for the sites. I'm actually closer to your part of the woods. I live in Tennessee just a little ways away from North Carolina. The name is just kinda something I picked up. Just remembered I need a wiring kit and a nut/bolt kit if possible.

I understand, I am very close to the NC/TN borders. I gave you Owens Salvage info because they will get stuff to you at a reasonable price, no matter where you are located.

Thanks again. Right now I'm working on getting a wiring harness and bolt set. So far those sites have helped alot. Already found a wiring harness and usually I'd surf the web for an hour or 2 and find nothing I could use. Now I just got to find a stainless bolt set and I can get back to work. Also, any ideas on how to remove grease stains from upholstery? Someone I knew with an older car suggested Dawn soap applied with a toothbrush but that didn't do anything. Not a huge deal since the upholstery is nice except for 2 or 3 spots about the size of a nickel but it would be nice to remove them if possible.

Not sure where you found your wiring harness, but these guys make OEM correct harnesses using identical materials. color codes, connectors, etc. Maybe a little pricey, but they are pretty damn nice!

I will echo RAM_51's advise. Rhode Island Wire's stuff is beautiful. And they solder all of the connections, too. They come with a diagram for each harness that identifies the item that each wire end goes to.

On the stainless steel bolt kit, you might try these guys:

I ordered a stainless engine bolt kit from a parts vendor, and the box that it came in had these guys' logo on it.

Seat Belts are available from any of the reproduction parts houses, flat glass can be cut at any glas shop. I prefer "The Filling Station" but "Chevs of the 40s" and "Obolete Chevrolet parts" are good sources as well. All hav eon line catalouges.

Hello;
About that grease on the seats, give Oxi-Clean (laundry adative) a try, follow instructions. My wife used that to take makeup stains (daughter) out of carpet! Worked like a charm!

Thanks everyone. I finally found a bolt set. Little expensive but it has the original look and not only is it made for my car but all the pieces are in individual bags that are labeled for easy installation. I'll see if any of those tips get out the stains. The only other problem I'm having is finding where to get the proper paint. My car is originally a 2 tone with shadow and thistle grey but it has been repainted by a previous owner so now I need to find where I can get the right paint. Any ideas? I've tried multiple sites and searches but I can't seem to find it.

Also, I tried going to Rhode Island Wires but I keep getting an error message saying that it couldn't find the server.

When I shot my '51 Coupe Shadow Grey about 12 years ago, I went to the Wesco Supplier in Bellingham, WA. and had them match the underside of my gas flap to get as close to the original color as possible. They used their photospectometer to match the color which generated a formula and specific color code. I was told now that the code exists, I could go to any PPG supplier and have the same paint mixed.

Just to verfy, I stopped in at the Wesco Paint and Body Supply here in Yakima and asked them if a PPG paint that I matched and mixed 12 years ago could still be retrieved from the PPG computer...I was assured that ANY PPG dealer would now have the code and formula for Shadow Grey in their computer and would be able to mix it.

That being said, the code is: DBC 36215
This is base/clear and not single stage.

Here is what the color looks like on the car:

May I suggest retrofitting a dual reservoir brake master cylinder as well?

Not 100% sure admittedly; but apparently even the concours show car judges won't mark down an older car with that obvious safety modification.
