The friend I bought my 66 from brought home a 65 Impala the other day. This car sits sky high in the frt for some strange reason but I cant see where anything had been added for a very long time, coils look like the rest of the suspension age and color wise. The rear is raised also but found spacers under the bottom of the coils to raise it up. The car is white and had a torquoise roof (not vinyl). Torquoise interior without power steering and a 300 hp 327 with glide. The car has passed through a few hands so we know theres been stuff swapped, but wished we could see a picture of a white with torquoise roof. The valve covers have fresh paint and stickers so we want to find out for sure on the 300 HP details of the engine without a tear down. I know I had a 4 door Caprice long ago that had a 275t hp 327 that I tore down which had glat tops, double humps w/1.94/1.50 valves and nothing else real special. Anyone have a picture of a white w/torquoise roof 65? Any real way to tell if the 327 is 300 hp?

I remember a friend with a 64 SS with turquoise roof and white body but I have not seen that combination on the 65. That would probably be a fairly rare combination. I was not aware that a 275 hp 327 was offered in 65. I thought the 327 was 250 hp or 300 hp. I know the exhaust manifolds were the same unlike 64 and earlier 250 hp vs 300 hp versions. I also thought the internals were the same with basically only the carb, intake arrangement being different. The 300 hp came with a Carter AFB and related intake while the 250 hp was a Carter WCFB with it's related intake. I am not sure if the cam is the same but I think they are.

250/300 hp only in 1965. 275 in 1966.

Suffix code on the id pad will indicate if it's a 327/250 or 300. Both '65 327 engines had the double hump heads (461 casting) but the 327/300 had a Carter AFB while the 327/250 had a smaller Rochester 4GC or Carter WCFB carb. 327/300 came standard with dual exhaust, 327/250 had single exhaust with duals an option. Same camshaft and exhaust manifolds for '65 327/250 & 327/300. Chevrolet, for the most part, kept quite about the '65 327/250 having improved cyl. heads except in the '65 Corvette brochure: "New cylinder heads with bigger inlet valves are featured for the standard engine": http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/chevy/65vtte /bild... Thanks guys for the info. I forgot to write the 275 hp 327 I had was a 66 Caprice. The car still has stock intake but has had a Holley added and headers with custom exhaust. I can look and see if stock dual exhaust hangers are still present. I will check the block to see what I can find.
