Getting ready to send the Nomad to the body shop. The passenger door had been backed into at some time and the door pillar was pushed in. The repair work to fix it was pretty shakey. The shop said it would be cheaper to replace it than fix it but the only re-pops I know of are for hardtops and convertibles. The Nomads use a sedan door, will a sedan pillar fit ? I've had some wrecking yards say it will and others say it won't. This isn't the pillar from the Nomad, it's from my hardtop, I'm looking for the section in white. Any advice is appreciated.

Meant to say the Nomad door is similar in height to the sedan door which is why I thought the sedan pillar might work.

It is a hardtop pillar, I mentioned that in the post. I used that picture to clarify what I was actually looking for. A hardtop pillar won't work as the mounting holes for the latch are an inch or so lower than the Nomad. Hopefully a sedan pillar will work as the chances of finding a Safari/Nomad pillar look to be about zero.

The width of the first surface that's parallel to the door and quarter is much wider on a sedan. That's what prompted my comment. I don't know what the latch location is. My guess is that since the Nomad door is a hybrid hardtop/sedan deal, the jamb may be also. Seems like you could move the latch if you just knew what to do. |

I would imagine it would be the same as a sedan since the Nomad door is basically a sedan door with the window frame removed. If you need me to, I can measure my Handyman wagon and my Nomad and see if they are the same.

No need. I measured it when I got home a few minutes ago. The Nomad and the wagon measure the same. It was about 26 1/2" from the floor pinchweld to the "point" of the quarter at the beltline. It is about 19 1/4"-3/8" to the bottom inside screw of the striker from the pinchweld. I would imagine that the sedan would be the same as wellnsince the wagon takes the same door as a sedan. The measurement to the striker can change a little since it is adjustable, but it should be in the same ballpark for all of them.

I'm curious about this, don't know why. I just measured my sedan jamb and it's essentially the same as reported. (Don't know the reference point on the pinchweld, top/bottom, but there's essential agreement.) I'm curious though, does the Nomad have the wide surface on the "step" like a sedan, or the narrow surface on the "step" like a hardtop? And I wonder if that even matters for fit. I think it does, if the doors have a matching wide or narrow step. Sedan doors have a wide step that matches the jamb. |

Sorry I wasn't too clear on the reference point. My main point was that they matched. But it was the top of the pinchweld. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. As for the size of the "step", I don't know for sure off hand, but I would guess that the Nomad is the same as a sedan and wagon since the Nomad door is basically a modified sedan door. Going from memory of just having the doors open yesterday, I'd say the wagon and Nomad are the same. I will gladly check it out and report in.

Just a bump for the topic. I haven't forgotten, I took the pics. For some reason I'm having trouble getting them onto my hosting site. My Nomad jamb is a little screwed up from the previous owner putting floors on and doesn't look quite the same as the wagon. But the step part is the same width as far as I can tell. I didn't measure, though.
