SHOULD I JUST RUN A HOT WIRE AND PUT A SWITCH IN ASHTRAY. DO I NEED SLINOID HOW MUCH DOES IT DRAW. GOT RID OF o.e. POINTS STYLE DIST. FOR A 80'S HEI DIST, STILL DOES IT. I am not an auto electric expert, but have had the same problem on two different cars. 1. The OEM wire going to the distributor is a resistance wire(vs the older ballast resistor). For HEI, you must either cut out the resistor wire and replace with a normal wire or run a separate dedicated 12V wire from an IGN source in the fusebox. 2. Cut the wire coming from the starter to the distributor. It isn't needed when you have the full 12V coming from the IGN source to the distributor. The problem apparently has something to do with a current feedback when using an aftermarket starter. Can't explain how it works, but cutting the wire from the starter solenoid cured the problem on two of my cars. |
