My 51 styleline at one time had windshield washers and working wipers. I think I have disconnected and plugged all those washer vacuum lines (?). PO said he never intended to drive in rain ( impossible in south Louisiana) so he didn't worry about the wipers. So my approach to checking out wiper motor was to hook a directline from manifold to wiper motor. After working through different hose sizes, hooked it up and lo and behold the wipers moved one way and the only way to move the other way was to close switch. I thought I had bypassed switch so now I am somewhat more confussed. My size 200Plus, age, and 6'3" makes staying under the dash difficult at best. any suggestions/solutions. I have never been able to find a hose schematic for the wipers, etc. Bill

I suspect that turning on the wiper switch allows the motor to vent. As I recall there is a vent outlet on the motor. The switch is just a off on control, the vacumn hose goes as you set it up direct from the manifold.

![]() I have seen posts that say put the carb end of the hose in some WD40 and work the wipers by hand to help lube the paddle inside. There is also a fuel pump available with double vacuum outlets so the wipers won't slow down as you accelerate.

Just two words....Rain Gear. No more losing wipers everytime you hit a hill. No more cable and drum issues. Next to the disc brakes and open drive...this was the best investment I made in my car. |

Rain Gear is a wiper replacement system for our cars. It's electric and completely replaces the entire system (including the cable & drum and old transmissions). Everything bolts into the original bolt holes. The guy started making them for the tri fives and so many folks started asking for the earlier 50s that he made them for us too. Comes with the switch but you can upgrade for a intermitent switch if you desire. Here is a link to their site. http://www.pacificwesterndesign.com/ |

I checked out the web site and they don't offer replacements for 49-52 they start at 53. Looks like a good product.

Put one in my 50 coupe. Was even able to use the stock wiper (switch knob) you would never know except that now they work. It truly is a bolt in was fairly simple |

One more question...In the Chevs of the 40's catalog it states that their electric wiper motor can't be used with the stock radio. Was that your experience with the wiper motor you installed? I have converted to 12 volt,,..Bill

The conversion kits you see on ebay are made by Newport Engineering, NOT Raingear. http://newportwipers.com/ http://www.pacificwesterndesign.com/RainGear/index...

My boys gave me an electric wiper motor from Kenny's Hot Rods made by New Port Engineers. Went in without having to remove stock radio ( doesn't work, but didn't want to ruin looks) and with some small issues like 250# plus men working under dash. Has a small screw in way that was holding the mount for the guide PRISM for seeing around the Visor. PO had it mounted in center ( not sure if was in stock location) Reloctaed it and motor went in good no issues except the small clips to secure transmission arms being somewhat difficult with big hands....works like a champ - two speed __ Glad it's done

I JUST put one of these Newport's in mine last week, all went well, except for those tiny E clips you mentioned. I don't know how it will work yet though. I still haven't got the dash/gauge panel wired back up,(hopefully this week)so no power to anything yet.
