I am second in line for a 62 convertible barn find. I'm pretty sure the first will buy it though. What do you guys think its worth from the limited info and pictures provided? It has a junk right front fender, bumpers are bent, small fifty cent sized tear in roof.Stuck 283.Alot of dents down right side a couple small spots of rust on quarters in front of both rear wheels. Trunk is decent and the floorboards are supposedly good with one bad floor brace. Glass is all good.Heres some pictures: ![]() ![]()

How bad do you have to have it? How badly does the other guy want it? That's probably what will determine how much it goes for. They ain't making them anymore, and it will probably go up in value if kept reasonably stock.

From what I see I'm thinking around $8k. A friend in my car club has one identical to it - blue 283 powerglide. He bought it new and claims he traded a 57 Chevy convert when he bought it. He's still kicking himself for that. Eric

I strongly suggest jacking it up and looking underneath it with a flashlight prior to offering any money. That will give you a better idea of what you are dealing with. One bad floor brace may turn into two and good floor pans may turn into not so good. It is just better to know exactly what you are getting into and crawling underneath it and poking around will help you make an educated buy. Just my 2 cents. Of course, if you are a body guy who can do a lot of the work yourself, you will be able to save a lot of money so you can spend more if really interested and get into a bidding war. I was always taught to buy a car for the body, because mechanical work is often much cheaper. Good luck with the purchase. I like the car.

I know what it takes as I have replaced the entire floor, all the braces and the inner rockers along with one inner rear wheelhouse on my 62 hard top. I already know what I can get it for, I was just curious what others thought for a value.

I agree....having been through it once, I doubt I would buy a car with hooped floor pans unless it was a rare numbers car. The amount of time and money that can be spent is incredible (you already know Kevin) and even though the money isn't always important...it still does come into play. If it does only need one brace, your laughing. I think it would be good up to 8k as long as it was complete you already have the experience it might be some fun! Brett

If it was just the floorpans, those aren't bad. The inner rockers are a pain. I have the OG 327 and aluminum glide out of my 62 also.

Yeah, the rockers are not fun...neither are the wheelhouses, or their braces, and the trunk....and lets not forget the quarters ....but if the floors are ok, hopefully the rest are too...if the floors are shot, pretty much for sure the others are shot too...Brett

I'd have paid that for it. Maybe the first guy will have trouble coming up with the rest of the money and you'll get it. Hope so.

I'm guessing it's sold for real. He is a New York City firefighter. Good for him. I can get it for 6250.00 if the deal falls through. The owner is a Mustang guy looking for a quick sale so he can buy a Mustang convertible. I told him to let me know if the deal falls through.

I told him I could be there from Maine in 5 hours cash in hand. He said the other guy offered to send him a deposit, but he said no, he would hold it for him to come look and buy it in person. He told me if that guy didnt buy it he would not sell it to someone else until I came and looked.I was happy with that and didn't want to haul a trailer 10 hours round trip to find out he sold it to someone 15 minutes before I got there.

For a 5 hour drive, if you want it bad enough, go see it without the trailer (nice Sunday drive in the black 62?). Even though it may be sold. Or at least call him every day, to0 many times these guys sell it to the next guy who shows up, and then apologizes to you. You Americans have that cheap gas. At least compared to ours.As you would know, hard to find a decent 62 that close to home when you live up here in salt country. Don

Oh man... I hope it's not going to be made into a low rider. No doubt. That would be a waste of what could be a nice car. Keith |

looks like the same car to me. its sitting in the same hangar, and same color. i dont mind the lowrider look,as long as its not too over the top.a nice resto-mod or mild restoration would be great.it doesnt seem to need alot of work.

Most Lowriders are cool cars but of course not everybody cares for them and that's cool. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and likes/dislikes.

If you want it that badly, then see if you can find out who the buyer is and see if he will flip it for a profit. Never can tell, and asking is free.

He turned down a $10K offer, and is asking $14K... I wonder how much he actually paid for it.

I know what the car sold for and he got a good deal. There is no question he will make some decent money on it. I would have done the same thing by now to fund other projects. He has a couple 61's he's doing so I'm sure the money will roll right into those, and someone will do this one up as well.

its just a 62 conv 283 car. no options, nothing fancy, i say its worth about 5k. every aspect of that car needs to be touch and will cost 20k so you be in it for 25 to 30k by the time its done. |
