If your daily driving I'd keep your 3:42's. If your playing in the mud or towing a trailer I'd pick the 4:10's. But you probably couldn't tow anything big enough to really need a low gear. I was thinking there was a way to figure your cruising rpms with a different ratio but can't remember. You can manipulate your ratio with taller/shorter tires too.
Keep throwing money at it, it'll get better...
