I bought a set of the dash-mounted AC vents for my 57. I used the template to locate the holes in the dash, but the vents sure don't come close to snugging up to the dash - the shape of the vent could never match the shape of the dash. Is this quality of fit normal? Thanks, Doug |

are the vents aftermarket? if so,poor fit is not unusual.try trimming the vents to match the dash. i just installed new dash trim on a 56 and a 55. supposedlu good stuff, but i still had to work on the ends where the screws go to make them fit the dash.

The 55-56 vents fit pretty good, and I've seen some 57s that did. Never heard any complaints previously. |

The vents are aftermarket, and pricey. I guess that's the way it goes. I don't see that trimming is an option on these cast vent outlets. Thanks for your thoughts. Doug |

What I did on my factory ones, is a lot of die grinding. Wrap masking tape around the backside of the face, and see where it hits, grind, and keep doing it until you are happy.

Just to mention w/o starting a new thread, I got my OE AC vents rechromed by Iverson Auto in MN for $150 couple weeks ago. They look great. Mine seem to fit OK as is. Also, anyone know why the backside side of the vent where the hose will connect is so much larger on the driver side vs pax? I'll need to find some way to neck it down. Charlie

I think it is due to the distance from the evaporator so the larger mass of air stays colder longer and helps equalize pressure with the shorter passenger side.

Charlie, Classic Auto Air in Grapevine has the adapters. I also think it's to get as much air to the drivers side due to the distance. On the original system there was a 3" hose to the drivers side. Link to original A/C. I have the OE vents also and when I first installed it, I got very little air out the drivers vent, so I put a 2 1/2" hose from the evaporator to the drivers vent with an adapter on each end. It helped the amount of air, quite a bit.

Thanks Don. Interesting pic of the OE system there. Sure was a long run. Charlie

Don, are the VA hoses to their vents 2" diameter? I could go look, easier if you tell me. |

I have Classic Auto Air, but I think Vintage uses 2" hoses also. I adapted the 2" to 2 1/2" on the long run, hopeing it would have less restriction.

It probably helps, even if the outlet fitting on the case is 2". |
