I am looking into buying a truck think its a 97 or 98 has a 6 inch lift 4 wheel drive crew cab long bed. Inside and out the truck is in mint condition, only problem, is the gas motor has 200,000 miles. Does anyone know about these motors in detail and if it will die in 10 miles or live another 50,000? The guy only wants 6K for the truck and it is very tempting, but that's a lot of miles. I can get more details if I need to. Oh an the transmission was replaced at 180,000.

If anyone knows of another post with the same topic please just let me know and I will look there.

That is a lot of money for a truck with that many miles.

It is worth about half what he is wanting. and there is zero guarantee with a motor that old. It depends on how well it has been taken care of.

I've got 240k+ on mine. I've replaced heater hoses/fitting in intake manifold, radiator hoses, water pump, starter, couple of fuel pumps, couple of serpentine belts, both front wheel hub/bearings, intake manifold gasket, column shifter (twice), lots of brake pads, I only get about 25-28k on a front set of pads. I've got the heavy 3/4 ton. Overall great truck.

My truck needs ball joints, suspension, pitman arm replaced + brake master booster seal is leaking lightly, enough to cause dust to collect around the area.

Engine is only as good as the maintenance performed. No guaranntees on a high milaeage vehicle.

agreed completely. Could be a lot of life left or no life, it all depends on how it was maintained and driven. Also the price is likely too much.
